I teach reporting, writing, editing and information gathering courses.
I hold a Deepe Family Chair in Depth Reporting at the University of Nebraska - Lincoln's College of Journalism and Mass Communications and teach courses in investigative reporting as well as a course in reporting by and for Lincoln's refugee and immigrant communities.
I also was a co-instructor of a global reporting program called "Global Eyewitness."
My teaching specialities include: reporting with empathy, the art of the interview, story structure, media and personal biases. I also teach using a solutions and accountability journalism lens. I thrive teaching narrative non-fiction storytelling.
